I was invited to a friend’s birthday dinner last week at Taro, a Japanese restaurant situated in Soho, London. It was a a choice between here, Eat Japan or Little Korea because the birthday girl loves the Asian cuisine; mostly Japanese culture.
It is closer to Tottenham Court Road station than Leicester Square, but I had walked the wrong way a few times and even past the actual door! I think I would have found my way easier from Leicester Square if I started there, since I’m more familiar with the route from China town to Soho.
Taro, is a small Japanese restaurant with two floors. Although it has a lot of floor space, the first floor is used for takeaways and people to sit at a bar for a quick bite to eat. Similar to those 5-minute pitstop places in Japan.
The restaurant section is downstairs in the basement where there is a spacious area with benches. It could easily seat 80 people. Once sat down we were served almost immediately for drinks; I knew what I wanted since I arrived early than the rest of the group. Deciding what to eat was hard because there was a wide range in sushi, ramen and donburis. I ended up getting a korokke (fried mashed potato) and gyu don (beef donburi) with a glass of Calpico (milky lemonade drink). The food was nice and some of the noodle portions were large!
As per usual we all took lots of photos during dinner and before we ate, it was really funny.
The pricing of this restaurant wasn’t bad as everything is under £15. My meal totalled to approx £16 including service.
I would definitely be visiting again!
