Birthday Shinanigans 2015

For my birthday this year I spent a whole week celebrating. I literally had cake starting from Monday through to Sunday… Unbelievable! My birthday landed on hump day (25th Nov) and thus I invited a few people to dinner for some yummy soupy noodles 😁

I wanted to go try out a new place in Chinatown called Viet Food but they had a large booking already and couldn’t accommodate us. I was their recommend Cay Tre in soho who had space. Most of us ordered Pho and others Bun. I had the Hanoi Garlicky Beef Pho which was spey yummy and actually had more flavour in the base than other pho I had in the past. The stock wasn’t oily at all and was bold. I really enjoyed it! The beef was tender and not so chewy. The noodles were delicious! Small thin straps that broke apart as you chew. Mmmmmm!

My friend also ordered Ox cheek which melted in you mouth. The meat was so soft! I guess it’s similar to a fish’s cheek which is the softest part of the meat.

Afterwards there was cake! (thank you Dee & Gen 💕) I could not believe the size of it! There was so much fruit covering the beautiful sponge. I love Chinese cream cakes, they da best!

I loved my cake! There was so much fruit on/in it!

Once food was chowed down, some of us headed to the arcade and others went home, tired from a long days work. We played the usual Pump It Up machine and Taiko Drums. I haven’t been in so long I feel rusty… I’m able to play level 10 songs on PIP ok so I may stay challenging myself to level 12/13s next 😁 For taiko, I didn’t know to many of the songs but I remember playing it on the wii(?). The arcade version is rather hard drive you had to almost smash the drum, causing my hands to cramp up after playing. It huuuurt! But was fun 😆

Would you recommend any songs to pay on Taiko, Pump or DJ Max Technika?

Until next time!

So much food for an afternoon…

I went out on a lovely sunny Sunday for Dim Sum at Wing Yip with a couple of friends. We ended up ordering quite a bit of food and waited till it all arrived so we could take a photo of a table full of food.

image
Never had a photo like this.

This amount of food filled us up a lot! Nom nom nom! I really like Har Gao (prawn dumplings) whenever I go Yum Cha.

Reading the menu

Afterwards I was taken across the road to a delicious ice cream parlour called Kaspa’s. They make an assortment of ice cream flavours and rather large bowls of ice cream sundaes. Bigger than the ones stereotypically from American restaurants. I mean look at them!

Oreo Sundae

Each sundae had a few scoops of flavoured ice cream,  topped with soft ice cream and covered in sauce or chocolate toppings and two wafers. It was delicious!

I was so full from eating so much in an afternoon! Was lovely though!

An hour queue for a burger?!

So my friends invited me out to try a new Burger place down Bond Street called Patty and Bun.

image
By the time we entered it was dark...

I’ve heard of it but have never thought that it’s be so small! The whole restaurant only had around 10 tables of 2. The decor was rather simple, old-fashioned Burger shack with only a few items on the menu to choose from. I believe this is the trend in London with restaurants that don’t take bookings, as it creates a long queue by the door making passed bys intrigued.
image
What Should I eat?

My friends and I ended up queuing for a whole hour which is something I don’t usually do; I was surprised it took so long for a fast food joint. I wasn’t disappointed though. The burger served up was juicy, delicious and packed flavour from the meat and sauces contained within.
image
This is gonna get messy. *drool*

The chips were crispy with hints of rosemary, but the chef overpowered the chips with salt :(
My friend also ordered chicken wings which reminded me of KFC. The skin was very crispy and the chicken moist and not so dry. We still aren’t sure which sauce was given, because despite ordering taramine sauce (supposedly non spicy) the wings were rather hot and felt like we were eating the jalapeƱo version…
image
The meal!

All in all I enjoyed the meal but I don’t think I would like to queue for so long again. So I would suggest either rocking up around lunchtime or late around 8-9pm when there are less people.
image
Look at it! Nom!

They have two branches in London to choose from.

Have you queued for a long time for food before? What was your verdict?

Review: Flesh & Buns, Bonedaddies

Sue and Nam invited me to dinner one evening at Flesh & Buns in Covent Garden. The name was really interesting and made me want to come try it!

image
At the entrance ^^

The restaurant is underground in Seven Dials and is kitted to look like old Japanese bars with lots of old looking bottles and sake casks.
image
Bar area

We ordered from the set menu so we could try a bit of everything, and boy, was it yummy! The gimmick in this restaurant is that instead of rice, you place the meat inside small white sweet buns (Chinese man tou) and eat it all wrapped up.
image
Deliciousness

I found it really tasty with all the sauces and mixing meats up, was almost like building my own mini sub. Everything tastes tasty when eaten with fingers too xD
image
Sushi rolls!

The toilets in this restaurant are very peculiar. They have decorated each cubicle with pages from manga, but these panels are all pornographic scenes… Unusual right? I really want to research as to why the interior designer decided on this concept! I found it funny. Maybe it was to boost social media and word of mouth? I’m unsure.
image
One of the less obscene panels xD

Anyway, I would recommend people to come try out this restaurant as it’s nice and tasty, especially their smores! OMG the dessert was delicious and so much fun to toast the marshmallows. I recorded a video on my instagram.

Review: Dip & Flip

I’ve heard about Dip & Flip from friends at work so I thought I’d go for the first time with Sue-Chan.

image
Sue hiding amongst the fooood

Th restaurant isn’t that far walk from Clapham Junction station and is a small little branch near the main road. The interior is almost of an old vintage fast food chain with wooden tables and a steel chairs.
image
Pin Up Lady in Gravy boat

There’s also a pinup girl sitting in a gravy boat eating a burger with the slogan “Life is better dranched in gravy” Mmmmm!

I ordered the lamb burger with mint sauce and a mint chocolate crunch Milkshake, plus fries to share. Everything on the menu is served with a side serving of gravy.

image
Nom!

The meat in the first burger came out cold which I thought was odd and when questioned, the waitress quickly fixed the situation and brought out a new one shortly after. Apparently the meat is cooked in gravy and then send hot but the first batch of meat didn’t seemed to get heated up. The second burger was much tastier with minty goodness and buckets of gravy sauce.
image
Delicious Milkshake

The mint chocolate crunch milkshake was on their monthly milkshake promotion. It tasted like a minty oreo milkshake that was very creamy but not too sweet.
image
I feel like a fatty

If you’re going on a date and don’t want to deal with messy food then Dip & Flip is not for you!

I will definitely visit again! Have I made you want to go?

Clearbooks Community Exhibition 2015 at Microsoft #CBCE2015

I attended the Clearbooks Community Exhibition 2015 last week with my friend Sue. This was an exhibition that aided small businesses with their daunting admin tasks by sharing the Clearbooks platform to them. There were also talks on how to market your business, make it grow and create awareness online via social media marketing.

image
My Microsoft badge and #CBCE Program

Many small local businesses also exhibited to showcase their products and were able to mingle with other small businesses to potentially gain new customers. I managed to speak to a local printing company for t-shirt prints so be prepared for kawaii clothing coming soon possibly 2016!

The whole event was hosted and organised by Clearbooks in the Microsoft offices. Microsoft also kindly sponsored the lunch and refreshments throughout the day which was very nice and yummy.

Hello 2015

Hi guys, it’s been a while. Sorry that I’ve been on hiatus for a long time. I just didn’t find the time to post about my adventures and many more things happened near the end of 2014.

I hoped everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a Joyful New Year!

image
Love Kekidoll

I received a lovely card from Joy all the way from America ^^ Was such a nice surprise to come home to. I shall make some space to hang those butterflies in my room!

My Christmas was spent with the whole family eating and playing Mahjong, whilst the kids gamed Smash Bros. Apprantly they were really into it and 8 man Smash Bros can be deadly…

It was a nice end to the year and I hope 2015 will bring me more luck, hope and joy to the future. Let’s leave the past behind us and move positively forward!

I didn’t really make any resolutions but will strive to,
– post often
– work  hard
– draw more
– finish what I started off

How was your new year? Please share in the comments!
