The Breakfast Club - London Bridge

Breakfast Club Review: London Bridge

I headed to the Breakfast Club in London Bridge with a few colleagues during lunch. The place was packed and we ended up queuing for around 15-20 minutes, which wasn’t so bad.  The service was very fast and the staff were super friendly too! We even chatted about having different flavoured milkshakes and that they needed to include a signature Oreo milkshake! mmm…*drools*

Deciding on which dish to choose
Outside waiting for our table. What to choose, what to choose!

We were all super hungry but I always find it hard to order due to the fact that at I want to eat everything available on the menu… I ended up picking Eggs Royale which Krystal has last time, plus a breakfast tea to help me warm up as I’d been ill earlier in the week.

The Full Monty
The Full Monty: bacon, sausage, black pudding, eggs, home-style fried potatoes, mushrooms, beans, grilled tomato and toasted multigrain bloomer

The food was delicious! Eggs Royale comes with a poached egg on a muffin, smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce on top. I added an extra helping of potatoes on the side since I was super hungry. I thought the smoked salmon was very smokey which made it a lot more salty. However the hollandaise sauce countered it and accompanied the dish really well.

The English Tea came with a mini milk glass which was so cute! I was told to steal it… I didn’t. Maybe next time… (lol).

So that was my second time visiting the Breakfast Club and I’m sure I’ll be going again in the near future. It’s so tasty!

Chilli Ramen

Kannada-Ya: Ramen Restaurant in London

Kannada-Ya is a small Japanese ramen bar that has branches in Japan, London, UK and Hong Kong.

The one I visited was 8 minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road Station in London and was very easy to find; although Google Map was very helpful due to all the road works happening in the area.

The restaurant has a similar take to other no-booking restaurants where the seating is limited and revolves around a fast-food like service. However, they don’t force you to leave even though there’s a queue formed outside. The patrons waiting outside will just be staring at you through the window though…

The menu is very limited and isn’t vegetarian friendly as everything is made with pork. The original ramen is thinly sliced pieces of Cha siu (bbq flavoured pork), some mu shu (fungus), nori (seaweed sheet) and spring onions (standard). Then there are three other options of adding beanshoots, making it spicy or changing the pork belly to the pork collar meat (less fatty).

I picked the original to try and the cha siu melted in my mouth.  It was very succulent and not rough at all! However you only get a few slices which wasn’t enough for my appetite. The pork bone broth was delicious and very flavoursome but the starch from the noodles made the broth murky and started to get thick, adding a milky flavour to the soup.

There are also other sides and extra ramen if you have extra broth left over and still feeling hungry!

I want to try out more! Would you recommend any restaurants in London?

Platter for 2

Bodeans. A meat feast fit for a king.

So for Manni’s birthday we all were invited to Bodeans for dinner.  Bodeans is a BBQ meat shack that boasts delicious barbecued meats in hearty portions. So if you’re a hungry hippo or feeling extra hungry, the this is the place for you.
The menu
The decor inside has a western ranch-like feel to it. With hanging wall ornaments to antler lamps.

As a group of 5, we ordered a dish each and a platter for 2 one (sidejoke) to share between us. The meal was absolutely delicious and we managed to devour the whole table of food. I think we consumed too much salt for one evening though…
Ready for their meal
And without further adieu, I present you the glorious meats. Which I like to call foodporn. You should look away now if you’re a herbivore…

Brunch at The Breakfast Club

Heard of them before but had never been. I was intrigued and thought I’d go check it out. This restaurant only serves American and English styled breakfast meals fit to fill tummy of hungry passer bys.

I had the All American Breakfast which came with a heart portion of pancakes and Canadian maple syrup.  Mmm!

It was really tasty and the place was so busy. The bacon was crispy, the pancakes were moist and I loved their potatoes. Everything is very filling here for a reasonable price. I would love to come back and try out the rest of the menu!

So much food for an afternoon…

I went out on a lovely sunny Sunday for Dim Sum at Wing Yip with a couple of friends. We ended up ordering quite a bit of food and waited till it all arrived so we could take a photo of a table full of food.

image
Never had a photo like this.

This amount of food filled us up a lot! Nom nom nom! I really like Har Gao (prawn dumplings) whenever I go Yum Cha.

Reading the menu

Afterwards I was taken across the road to a delicious ice cream parlour called Kaspa’s. They make an assortment of ice cream flavours and rather large bowls of ice cream sundaes. Bigger than the ones stereotypically from American restaurants. I mean look at them!

Each sundae had a few scoops of flavoured ice cream,  topped with soft ice cream and covered in sauce or chocolate toppings and two wafers. It was delicious!

An hour queue for a burger?!

So my friends invited me out to try a new Burger place down Bond Street called Patty and Bun.

image
By the time we entered it was dark...

I’ve heard of it but have never thought that it’s be so small! The whole restaurant only had around 10 tables of 2. The decor was rather simple, old-fashioned Burger shack with only a few items on the menu to choose from. I believe this is the trend in London with restaurants that don’t take bookings, as it creates a long queue by the door making passed bys intrigued.
image
What Should I eat?

My friends and I ended up queuing for a whole hour which is something I don’t usually do; I was surprised it took so long for a fast food joint. I wasn’t disappointed though. The burger served up was juicy, delicious and packed flavour from the meat and sauces contained within.
image
This is gonna get messy. *drool*

The chips were crispy with hints of rosemary, but the chef overpowered the chips with salt :(
My friend also ordered chicken wings which reminded me of KFC. The skin was very crispy and the chicken moist and not so dry. We still aren’t sure which sauce was given, because despite ordering taramine sauce (supposedly non spicy) the wings were rather hot and felt like we were eating the jalapeño version…
image
The meal!

All in all I enjoyed the meal but I don’t think I would like to queue for so long again. So I would suggest either rocking up around lunchtime or late around 8-9pm when there are less people.
image
Look at it! Nom!

They have two branches in London to choose from.

Have you queued for a long time for food before? What was your verdict?

Red Nose Day Bake Off

We had Red Nose Day/Comic Relief last month where the company decided to support the Great British Bake Off Sale charity event in our UK offices.
image
Our office had a lot of support as there were many talented bakers hidden amongst us!
image
I managed to win the Best Bake with my Mickey and Minnie Mouse cupcakes! Whoop whoop!
image

Alex won the prize for the most money raised with his sausage rolls. He made three huge mountains of them, and had three different delicious flavours.
image

I love these bake off and didn’t really expect to win since I though my friend who made the White Chocolate mud cake (with the strawberries) would. Everything looked so professional and delicious!
image
We managed to raise over £200 and the financial director matched it ^^ So it was a great turn out!

Review: Chin Chin Labs Camden

Chin Chin Labs is very famous for making frozen ice cream with liquid nitrogen on their premises. Their shop in Camden Town is usually busy with a queue outside during the summer months.

I went last summer when I happened to stumble across it during my trip to Camden. Although there was a queue, it wasn’t long till we were served. The ice cream is mixed in stand mixers (I want one!) And the liquid nitrogen poured in, releasing a mysterious steam from the pot.

All the staff is dressed in lab coats and goggles. They are very friendly but too busy to have a chat xD

The ice cream is served in small polystyrene bowls lined with a sheet of paper with their printed logo. The ice cream looks like it’s been painted into the bowl in a swift movement. You get a good portion in each bowl.

We tried the chocolate and honeycomb flavour. Both were really nice and not too sweet. The chocolate flavour was more bitter than sweet and tasted like brownies.

I would totally recommend the place for any dessert or ice-cream lovers. Its a really cool experience to watch it being made!

Have you tried liquid nitrogen ice cream?
What’s your favourite flavour ice cream?
