Travel Diary: Harajuku, Shibuya & Ikebukuro

In the morning we met my friend, Takahiro, at Harajuku station and headed to the park. We paid our respects and I wanted to hang up a wish plaque but couldn’t think of anything specific to write… Ended up just taking a touristy photo instead :D

Afterwards we went to Shibuya for some sushi! OMG, sushi was really inexpensive and the choice was vast. Takahiro took us to one which was self operated using an iPad. You select up to 3 dishes you’d like per order and when ready, the chef will ‘ship it’ to you via an automatic conveyor belt. It was so cool! There was even an option to play Jan Ken Pon (rock, paper, scissors) with the computer after spending over ¬•1080, winning allows you the choice of a 10% off voucher on your next visit or a free go at their gashapon. I opted for the gashapon and got myself a cute sushi keyring which I gave my little cousin!

Oh on another occasion, Stefan and I ordered a kids meal as we didn’t want to spend nor eat a lot that day and thought it would suffice. However what we didn’t realise is that we seriously confused the waitress because when the chef pinged for her to collect the food for me, she turned around instantly to confirm the table number. When she looks back at table 1, she sees me sitting there and replies to the chef that there’s no child at the table. The chef shoos her off and she warily walks over and asks me if this children’s meal was mine. Shyly, I replied yes and felt super bad for ordering a non-adult meal D: The others thought it was funny and laughed about it throughout our trip. Oh Japan, how you amused us so. Nevertheless, the kids meal was super yummy with fries, fried chicken, mini sushi pieces and a cake!

Harajuku is a small place with a huge sense of fashion. The world famous Takeashita Street is renowned for the hoards of people who gather to show off their fashion on the weekend. The times I went weren’t very busy and we were able to browse the stores¬†casually. I was very tempted to buy a maid outfit for my next expo as they were having a sale, but couldn’t decide on the colour or design at the time. My friend, Emi took us to her favourite shops, many which were lolita stalls and some quirky ones such as Doki Doki 6%. There was a really nice retro toy shop which we all ended up buying something each as souvenirs or for ourselves.

In Harajuku
Immi and I kept coming back here to try out the crepes! We found out the hard way that cheese in Japan isn’t the same as cheese in England… Thus their cheesecake isn’t great and tastes really odd. Brownies are rather yummy on the other hand! Nevertheless we enjoyed our pretty crepes.

When you visit Harajuku you definitely must see the Dawson store here. It is huge! The selection is great and you’re bound to find a few souvenirs to bring home. I stocked up on some cute washi tapes and DIY keyring kits for my little cousins!

After a long day of shopping and eating, Emi took us to the purikura shop. Purikura is famous in Japan where you can take sticker photos with beauty x100 (exaggeration) plus enlarge dolly-like eyes. You’re also able to dress up for free and decorate your photos at the booth afterwards. I had a lot of fun and the photos came out great! (although we seriously don’t look like ourselves… Heh )

All of us on New Years

Happy New Year!

Wishing all my readers a Happy New Year filled with joyful events, wonderful times and a prosperous year.

All of us on New Years
All of us on New Years <3

Before the New Year, my friends and I went to the Christmas trail at Kew Gardens.

I found it disappointing since it wasn’t Christmassy at all. Yes there were pretty lights that illuminated the trees and path to help you be along your way but it wasn’t fancy at all. There were speakers that emitted robotic sounds which they (the scientists) believe are the voices of the aquatic plants.

image
So along the illuminated trail, there were people who were “talking” to the plants by chucking stones into the pond or jar. However my friend believes it is just the vibrations from the stone when it hits the water; I kinda believe that more. Anyway, the transcripts should be available online early April 2014.

For new years eve we all went round JoJo’s house for a teppanyaki night. There was a LOT of food so we all filled our stomachs, ready for the night ahead of us.

LETS COOK!

When the clock stroke midnight, the TV on, champagne was poured and we were slowly counting down to the New Year, anticipating for the fireworks of London.

The fireworks this year were amazing. There was soooo much flare, color and variation. I think we had the best seats in the house – in front of the wide screen TV – others at the event had to stand in the pouring rain.

After the countdown, we tried to release some sky lanterns with wishes written on. Although most of us knew it wouldn’t work due to the storm and high wind, we still tried. We managed to light both lanterns after a good 5 minutes trying to block the wind but before it could fill up with hot air, it started to burn the tissue paper and create a hole :( so even after releasing the lantern didn’t fly very far…

After our failed attempt at the sky lanterns we ended up back at the house singing karaoke to English, Chinese and Korean songs ^^

Then at 4am we did up Just Dance on the Wii and did lots of boogie-ing. I found that the Korean dances had more challenging moves and actually make you move your whole body more then the English version. It also had Wonder Girls’ Nobody which Krystal and I plan to master lol!

I didn’t go to bed till 7am so I was really tired and had been leaving sleep until last night.

Hope everyone enjoyed the New Year! How were the fireworks for you?

Review: 3D Nail Embellishments

Whilst shopping for Christmas presents I came across these 3D nail embellishments from Primark. They were inexpensive and had a lot of colours in the range, I really wanted to try them out! I bought one with iridescent beads and a hot pink nail varnish.

Pretty Candy Beads
Pretty Candy Beads

The nail varnish color really stands out and is long wearing; so you could just use it on its own. The beads turn out to look like bubbles or little candy beads on your nails -very cute.

Funnel to pour beads back
Comes with a cute funnel

The whole process was easy to do and took only about half an hour to 40 minutes to complete. Basically when you apply your second coat, pour the beads to the wet varnish before it dries and leave it for 15-20 minutes to set. The nail set also comes with a mini funnel to pour all the unused beads back into the jar :)

Hot Pink Nail Varnish
Love this Hot Pink Nail Varnish

I got a little impatient and started using my hands again and did the washing up. So the edges aren’t covered no more. So to keep them fully covered I would suggest to watch TV whilst using this product.

The beads do tend to fall out over the course of the week so do be careful with children or when eating.
If you want the embellishments to last longer without falling out put a top coat on; the instructions don’t tell you to do this but i tried it on one nail and found that one has all the beads still intact compared to the other nails.
I found the beads tend to catch on woolly clothing; making my new scarf unhappy. Maybe something to time for the summer time?

If possible, I would try to form little bow decals with the beads but this would require some stencils; I will look into it and experiment!

Would you try these nail embellishments?

With Love,
Kekidoll xoxo

P.S. Don’t forget to join in my Christmas giveaway to celebrate the opening of my online store! You can enter by ‘like’ing the page, sharing the post and commenting with a name for the bunny via my facebook page or using the widget in the sidebar. GOOD LUCK!

Expo weekend

Kekiko at MCM Expo

Kekiko launched on the weekend of MCM Comic Con on 25-27th October. This was a brand that I had started up myself and am planning to work on to bring adorable items handmade, hand designed or handpicked by yours truly.

Check out my interview with Jenny from Nerdgeist here!

The three day weekend was filled with people dressed up as interesting characters, people seeking anime merchandise or kawaii items or were just there for the comic con panel and games. I managed to play on the Pump it Up machine on the last day as they managed to fix it (it was down for two days).

Business was well and it was a lot of fun. My two cousins came and helped me out a lot during the weekend, which meant I was able to take a break and look around while they looked after my stall. Our best sellers were the cute head gear; I had an assortment of hair clips with ears on, bunny hats and caps with the avengers on. Everyone loved them!

Kekiko was also featured in Anime Picks!

Now that the expo is over I am focusing on getting the online store up and running. Its only a holding page at the moment since I’m working on the layout and product photos. If you want to be the first to know when we open go visit www.kekiko.com and enter your email :)

Announcement! New Store Launch at MCM Expo 2013

I’ve been meaning to start my own business for a while now but had never found the time to do it. After speaking to these motivational people who have made time for themselves to expand on their lives, it made me realise I was just procrastinating and stopping myself from achieving anything big.

“Chase your dreams”

So for MCM Comic Con tomorrow I will be there launching my new brand Kekiko. I will be there all weekend, from 25th – 27th October 2013! So come say hi!! We will be at stall W7!
Kekiko
We're near the front of the Expo!
I would also appreciate it if you would like my Facebook page as that would really help boost my morale and urge me to focus, plus work harder on this personal project.

Behind the Name

Keki PandaThe brand name was picked using my alias, Keki meaning ‘cake’ in Japanese since I absolutely love cake! I have a sweet tooth. Ko sounds like ‘co’, meaning company as in business or companionship. Therefore, put together it means Keki’s Company and also Keki & Friends. I have also named my two mascots, a couple of adorable little pandas, Keki and Kiko! So its all tying together and slowly being built upon. There is a lot to do and the range of items I’ve designed is small. I’ve just started to produce some hand made bookmarks for now and shall expand into more stationary, fashion and gift lines for the near future.

Wish me luck!

With Love,
Kekidoll xoxo

Manchester Comic Con and Hyper Japan Goodies!

image

I had purchased a lot of goodies during my visit to MCM expo Manchester and Hyper Japan. This is what I hoarded on my travels!

A Japanese snack making kit. This is really cute but I haven’t found the time to use it yet. It creates donut shaped jellies you can decorate and then eat!
You can buy it from Tofu Cute

My little cousins are obsessed with My Little Pony and have even since forced me to watch it. I haven’t sat down and watched all the episodes (please don’t kill me MLP fans…) But I’ve watched a few clips on YouTube. So I bought them Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle keyrings for them. My friend bought a plugy with a Fluttershy design.

I came across a very cute store filled with handmade felt toys and acrylic earrings. All designs were created by Cherry Abuku. I couldn’t resist getting these little babies! If you didn’t know, I have enough pairs of earrings to wear every day of the year… Its one piece of jewellery I love to change and wear.

I bought this necklace and ring from a lovely girl who makes her own jewellery pieces and sells them from her Livejournal blog. The bunny necklace was Alice in Wonderland inspired. The ice cream ring was just so sparkly and I absolutely LOVE ice cream!!

I also visited the Nanoblocks store and bought some sets to try out! Here I bought the Toucan and Piano set. I was told the Toucan set was the hardest to build.

I also bought an Owl a while back from MCM Expo. Isn’t she cute? I love the colour purple and her personality remind me of myself :)
You can order one from Artbox online.

Last but not least, my cute and cuddly Alpaca! This was from my friend Jojo. Her store, Lovejojo, was very pink and she had an army of Alpacas to sell! After the Hyper Japan event she only had 12 left.
Grab an Alpaca before stocks run out now!

What should I name this little darling?
