My Office Christmas Party

image

We had our Staff Christmas Party on Friday after work. We went to Professor Truman’s Magical Laboratory in Brick Lane. It was really hyped up and everyone was expecting a spectacular show filled with magic, potions and dramatic lights. However we were disappointed with “lab rats” (people dressed in lab coats) playing poi and the a “robot” built by the mad professor just jiggying his bum. Errr I think you will find that I know friends who can play poi better and even with fire (yes health and safety I know), but if I had a robot on stage I would expect it to breakdance and not just bop to the beat then release some steam towards the ceiling from it’s guns. My table wasn’t very happy about the show provided – short and not exciting.

The food was edible but not great at all. On paper it sounded lovely…

  • Starter: Oven roasted cranberry chutney and brie tart (v)
  • Main: Oven roasted succulent breast of chicken, cooked in an infusion of fresh thyme, rosemary and farmhouse butter, served with creamy garlic and parmesan mash potatoes and freshly roasted honey glazed winter vegetables
  • Dessert: Chocolate caramel truffle laced with a raspberry and chilli coulis

However what we got was a cold cheese tart (the sauce was nice though), chicken on a bed of mashed potato with vegetables (tasted fake, cheap and vegetables were bitter) and lastly a chocolate vanilla pudding with wild berry compote (there wasn’t enough chocolate flavour and the berry sauce was too bitter/tangy, thus not a great pairing). Even the vegetarian meal took 20 minutes to serve, after bringing it to their attention our party needed 7 veggie meals; apparently we didn’t notify in advance and they didn’t have enough food. I was told the vegetarian meal was cold and tasteless, so instead of giving bs about how they don’t have enough to serve, why couldn’t they at least heat up the food?! Sorry for sounding all ‘Come Dine with Me’ style whining but we paid £80 per person for this event and the Fun Committee had to organise it 6 months before. So everyone’s expectations were high and wanted it to trump our last Christmas party.

The entertainment provided wasn’t so bad. There was a photo booth, casino tables, arcade games and a batak board. I always like photobooths. They are always so much fun ^^

The disco was boring. They hadn’t even kitted out the room; just filled it with smoke. Surly they could have hung some Christmas decorations up and placed a cool dance floor. The music at the beginning was too old school for me to know what the song was. It wasn’t until I had to leave (last train home) that the Christmassy ones came on =.= Oh well.

Despite all that I still had a good time with my work friends and got quite tipsy drunk lol. Couldn’t really walk in my heels, thank goodness that I brought my flats along!

How were all your Christmas parties? If you haven’t had your yet, are you looking forward to it?

Professor Truman's Magical Laboratory
Professor Truman’s Magical Laboratory Show

Tomorrow is our staff Christmas party and we will be celebrating it in Brick Lane. The email about the venue sounds very cool. They are turning the Old Truman Brewery into a magical laboratory where performers, special concoction and fun galore will all come together. I can’t wait! I’ll be wearing the same dress I wore for my birthday because I want to get the most wear out of it! Hehe.

We will also be hosting our little secret Santa exchange tomorrow as well.

Christmas Tree
Our office Christmas Tree with presents underneath :)

Have you all completed your Christmas shopping yet? I certainly haven’t! For my close friends from school I bought mango vodka and baked a cupcake for them each.  They went down well ^.^ I’ve already bought a gift for one of my housemates and part of one for the other. As for my family I don’t know where to begin!! I’ve told them that we’ll shop in the Christmas sales for their presents. I’m finding it harder to find presents this year for some reason…

I started a little Christmas wish list which I spotted a lot of bloggers have been doing so I thought I’d jump on the band wagon! What do you think? It’s a lot of things for my nonexistent home. (Maybe I should put a house on my wish list…)

Cosmic Projector
Laser Cosmos Projector – For making the ceiling all pretty before dozing off to dream land

My Halloween 2013

Happy Halloween

Usually I stay indoors and wait for trick-or-treaters on Halloween. Last year my housemates and I stayed indoors watching horror movies. I dislike horror movies a lot since they still make me unable to sleep soundly… (Yes its true, I’m not that brave after all) They made me watch The Human Centipede and The Children back to back in the dark >_< Dang I was scared! Anyway, this year my friend invited me to a Halloween party organised by her friend for Disney and ITV. Businessmen Amy, let's go! Heh, not all of them were amazing, there were more weirdos than genuine guys; but then again, how am I to know when everyone is just dancing, spanking people on the butt with wooden swords and wearing face masks? [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="I dressed as a kitty"]image[/caption]
The party would have been fun if we were there for a little longer (we went to the wrong address and wasted 20 minutes). We also didn’t really get to dance since my friend was busy taking to guys and trying to hand out her business card; err hellooooo? The other one just sat there like a lemon drinking, didn’t even want to dance. *le sigh*
Next time if they want to “network” I’m not going. I wanna have fun *puts on her fake Jess teeth*

We also organised an office warming party with a Halloween theme. We played on the Wii, foozeball table and ping pong. It was a simple party but I left early because I went to the cinema to watch Thor! It was gooooood ^^

My best friend is off to the army *cry*

Us at TGIs The gang

One of my close friends left for the army a couple of weeks ago. Before he went to serve the country we invited him out for drinks and dinner as a little farewell.

Drinks at Las Iguanas
Those Tequila shots were nice but deadly

We went to TGI Fridays (on Friday hehe) for some yummy steak and ribs. Delicious! Here I offered everyone with my chocolate cake which we didn’t manage to finish. The cake was too big and we were pretty much full from the dinner…

I made choccy cake!

We also gave him a little gift to wish him good luck. It was a dog tag necklace with a little message from our favourite game to remind him of all of us.

Aim for a Pentakill! (LoL Reference)

Afterwards we went for drinks as Las Iguanas which was packed! They need more seats! However I did manage to bag a sofa with table after half an our of standing and a bottle of sangria. When we sat down, this was when the Tequila shots emerged and it was alright to down them and I didn’t feel dizzy at all. It was only when we got up to leave (he had a train to catch home and I had the anime expo the next day) I felt my stomach burn and make noises. Yup, I had to run for the loo and throw-up. Nice. I thought I held it in well and managed to run to logos and queue up for the disabled toilet for my turn (the normal loos were closed). I’m such a lightweight!

At Las Iguanas
Out for drinks afterwards ^^

All my friends seem to be leaving the country or further away from me. I just found out my housemate is going to China.

Who else is a lightweight? How do you handle your drinks? Any tips for me on how to prepare myself for another drinking session?

Office Festivities!

My office Christmas party was held at Bloomsbury Big Top Cirque de Noel last Thursday. It was a lovely event and very grand where the men had to be dressed in black tie and the ladies in dresses and heels. This meant I had to purchase a new dress for the party as I didn’t have many evening dresses that were sparkly enough for our Christmas event. Many of the girls in our office had to search online and offline for new outfits but everyone managed to look amazing that evening. It’s really nice to see everyone all dressed up and not in work clothes.

All the boys looking smartly dressed

The venue was amazing where there were circus acts being performed during dinner. The food was delicious but was not filling.  I thought the dessert was too bland or my liking, it needed some more sweet taste to it. I’m a sucker for desserts and I would always have to have them when I eat dinner but I wasn’t satisfied with it at this venue.

George the Python
We got to hold on to and pet a real Python!

Nevertheless I enjoyed my evening with the disco dancing and a free photo booth. There was always a big queue and because the snaps had 2 seconds between them each, the photos came out really funny because we were moving around a lot.

We also decorated the office in the morning and are holding a Secret Santa gift exchange this week – so much fun! Nancy and I bought the decorations, including the office Christmas tree, all the way from Asda! It was heavyyy~~ But I managed ^^
