Review: Green Papaya Vietnamese Restaurant

Green Papaya, a Vietnamese restaurant, opened their new restaurant in Hoxton early December. Its only a 3 minute walk from the overground!

I was invited to the grand opening since I helped design their website ^^ They serve really good food! If you’re in the Hoxton or Hackney area, and feeling hungry, be sure to check Green Papaya out!

The atmosphere was good

The decor had a rustic feel, similar to Jamie Oliver’s chain, but had a lot of Vietnamese photos from the broadcasting station archives (the manager has contacts). He hired some very good interior designers.

The evening was bustling and some passers-by came in to get a table but had to be turned away since it was a private party. So I’m sure they’ll be really busy ^^

Deliciousness!!! I devoured it all.

I enjoyed my evening and ate a lot. We also managed to take some good shots for the website and Facebook page. I felt bad that I hadn’t bought a congratulation gift though. How could I have forgotten?! I feel ashamed U.U

Have you had Vietnamese cuisine before? What’s your favourite cuisine? I have only had Vietnamese food whenever I’m with my Vietnamese friend – so weird.

Tiko’s Birthday at Bodeans

image

Tiko turned just turned 29 and organised a dinner at a BBQ restaurant in London called Bodeans (a different branch to the one I went to for Dee’s).

image

Here I attempted to devour a full platter meal with two others with a healthy side order of chicken wings and macaroni cheese. Their portions were huge!! We managed to finish it all in the end but I did feel bloated after and couldn’t fit in dessert.

image

As a good will gesture for giving us our table held an hour late, they gave us or first round of drinks on the house. Woo!! We all had milkshakes and cocktails since it was a celebration ^^

image

image

Tiko also got a few shots free from our waiter since it was his birthday but I don’t believe it always happens at Bodeans. I would have liked everyone to sing happy birthday while Tiko stood up in the models of the restaurant. That would have been a fun sight to see.

image

The meal was so meaty and did make us have to “drop the kids” (a no.2), some even suggested becoming vegetarian for a week or two! We did manage it all though and I’m surprised how much meat gets devoured within 2hours! It was so tasty but I wouldn’t try again for while, need to work off the calories!!

Do you enjoy meaty dishes? Is there a bbq restaurant near you?

Review: Bodeans BBQ Restaurant and Cookies & Cream

image

image

For my friend’s 27th birthday, she invited us to go to Bodeans in Tower Hill, an American BBQ restaurant that serves a lot of beef, pork and carbs.

image

This is not a restaurant for the faint hearted! The portions here are large and it really reminded me of Man vs Food and Epic Meal Time. I would suggest it to those with very big appetites.

image

I shared a large Bodeans Boss platter for two with another two friends. There were burnt ends, ribs, pork, chicken, coleslaw and chips. It was a lot of meat to devour but I really enjoyed it! I probably could have finished it sharing with two people because I was eating other people’s food when I finished mine hahaha. Not enough!! (Makes me realise that I eat a lot!)

image

Afterwards, we went to Cookies & Cream in Whitechapel. It was a good walk and short bus journey ^^ Here we had ice creams and caramel tarts with custard. People who were full just had a mocktail each. I ordered a mint Aero sundae. Whoop whoop! It was delicious but very chocolatey… They popped in so many Aero chocolate balls. I think I was getting slightly sick on chocolate towards the end.

image

It was a good evening and we all enjoyed ourselves with our food babies.

image

I would definitely recommend these places but Bodeans is a very strict chain of restaurants. They limit you to two hours to eat all your food and you must have a full party, else they’ll charge you for every missing party member. So if you have fickle friends who drop out last minute, I wouldn’t suggest inviting them; as mean as it sounds you don’t want to have to pay extra due to their laziness to attend.

Did any of you enjoy BBQ meat/healthy salads for the summer?

Japanese Cuisine at Taro, Soho

image

I was invited to a friend’s birthday dinner last week at Taro, a Japanese restaurant situated in Soho, London. It was a a choice between here, Eat Japan or Little Korea because the birthday girl loves the Asian cuisine; mostly Japanese culture.

image

It is closer to Tottenham Court Road station than Leicester Square, but I had walked the wrong way a few times and even past the actual door! I think I would have found my way easier from Leicester Square if I started there, since I’m more familiar with the route from China town to Soho.

image

Taro, is a small Japanese restaurant with two floors. Although it has a lot of floor space, the first floor is used for takeaways and people to sit at a bar for a quick bite to eat. Similar to those 5-minute pitstop places in Japan.

image

The restaurant section is downstairs in the basement where there is a spacious area with benches. It could easily seat 80 people. Once sat down we were served almost immediately for drinks; I knew what I wanted since I arrived early than the rest of the group. Deciding what to eat was hard because there was a wide range in sushi, ramen and donburis. I ended up getting a korokke (fried mashed potato) and gyu don (beef donburi) with a glass of Calpico (milky lemonade drink). The food was nice and some of the noodle portions were large!

As per usual we all took lots of photos during dinner and before we ate, it was really funny.

The pricing of this restaurant wasn’t bad as everything is under £15. My meal totalled to approx £16 including service.
I would definitely be visiting again!
